Photobucket
Finally!!!!!!! I've been telling you about the "Trick or Treat Studios" contest that I've been planning on holding for weeks now!  Well come one, come all, here it is!  I bet you are wondering what the prize is, well I kind of gave it away yesterday but you probably didn't know it.  Yesterday I posted this seemingly random image at the end of the "Trick or Treat Studios" interview

Well "ghouls" this was not a random image but a preview of the prize itself! Yes, "Trick or Treat Studios" has given HalloweenOverkill the chance to award one of you lucky readers this mask! To win the "Devil" mask all you have to do is tell me who sculpted it. Here's a clue: http://trickortreatstudios.com/devil_halloween_face_mask.html Answer the question in the comments below and you could be the lucky owner of this mask just in time for Halloween this year! (I really hope the winner will actually use this as part of their Halloween cosutme)  Oh yeah and another thing you get with this mask is the official "scent" of Halloween.  You know what I mean, this mask just has that "smell" that we all remember as children smelling right around Halloween. (No it's not a gross smell but that rubbery smell that we all love and remember)  A huge thank you goes out again to "Trick or Treat Studios" for partnering with HalloweenOverkill to bring you "ghouls" this amazing prize
Some official rules for the contest;
1. Winner must live in the U.S. (due to shipping costs)
2. To be eligible to win you must answer the question: "Who sculpted the Devil mask?" the answer can be found here - http://trickortreatstudios.com/devil_halloween_face_mask.html
3. an Email address must be left with your comment/answer so I can contact you.
4. The mask will be shipped as fast and safely as the post office allows.

17 Days Left............Halloween Countdown 2010 CONTEST!!!!

Photobucket

Who doesn't like a great deal on DVDs?  Well in case you haven't heard of them yet, you need to head on over to CrazyApe.com  These folks have some seriously crazy deals on DVD packages.  Oh and by the way they have BluRay titles as well!  After watching a few of the films on the "Pure Terror" 50 Movie Pack, I cannot stress enough how awesome of deal CrazyApe DVD packs really are.
Photobucket Uploader Firefox Extension
The Pure Terror Pack contains classics such as "Dr. Jekyll and the Werewolf" (starring the amazing Paul Naschy), "The House by the Cemetery" (which by the way was the first movie I jumped into on this set, and if you haven't seen it, buy this pack and watch it now-- you have never seen a crazy bat scene like the one in this movie), and "Scared to Death" (with the absolutely always terrific Bela Lugosi).  These are just some of the names of big stars found on these 12, yes I said 12, discs of DVD terror ranging from downright cheesy to pretty damned terrifying.  As far as the quality of the transfers on this disc I don't really have any complaints. The audio was off on one of the titles but I believe that probably extends all the way back to the original.  The quality actually gave them a bit of that "old school" horror vibe to them and actually enhanced the experience if anything.  I also had the chance to check out their Cult Terror Cinema 12 pack which really took me back to the days of my youth.  I swear this collection had some of the exact movies I would sneak out of my bedroom after midnight to watch on after hours cable.  The sweet thing about this deal is that you get all 12 of these Cult Terror Cinema films in one pack for just $8.99 (price at time of writing, list price is $14.98)!!!  I have to stress yet again how great of a deal you get with these folks.
Photobucket
I highly recommend you head over to BloodyDVDs.com to check out trailers for some of these Horror and Cult DVD movie packs.  Another thing to keep in mind is that CrazyApe doesn't just sell horror packs, but they also have holiday packs including Christmas movies, cult cinema, drive in movies, bombshell collections, and documentaries as well!
Now for the big announcement!  I bring to you the first contest in the inaugural HalloweenOverkill Halloween Countdown 2010 being brought to you by CrazyApe.com & BloodyDVDs.com!!!  The fine prize up for grabs is their "Blood Suckers" 12 Movie Collection.
Photobucket Uploader Firefox Extension
As found on the back of the case, this set truly is "A fangtastic pack of films with bite!"  Included in this pack are titles such as: Blood Bound, Blood Sucking Babes from Burbank, Hollywood Vampyr, Lifeblood, Strange things happen at Sundown, and others.
Here are the rules for this contest:
  1.  Comment on this post below with your email addy and your favorite quote from a vampire flick.
  2.  Head on over to BloodyDVDs Facebook page here and "like" it.  (I'll confirm this with the winner)
  3.  Winner will have this shipped to them as safe as the post office can provide.  (No guarantees, but I promise I'll try to ship fast and safe.)
  4.  Winner must live in the continental U.S. (sorry folks, I'm not rich----yet)
Again you really need to head over to Crazyape.com or Bloodydvds.com or BloodyDVDs Facebook page and order yourself some of their awesome DVD sets in time for a Halloween Horror Marathon, or just plain out thank them for being so fuc%&ing awesome!  I'd also like to thank CrazyApe.com for providing the reviewing copies and the contest giveaway set.
By the way this contest ends Friday, October 22nd.

Annual 4th of July Scavenger Hunt and a lost treasure from my tomb of goodies!

Happy 4th of July!  I'd like to first thank everything and everyone that makes this country so great, including all the troops who risk their lives everyday to uphold our beliefs and the freedom we sometimes take for granted.
Photobucket
So before we get to the contest I'd like to share something I found in my closet yesterday while packing up for the move to PA. I believe most of you share my fondness of Adrienne Barbeau, the legend from such classics as The Fog, Swamp Thing, and Creepshow! Well as I was packing up my book collection I found the book featured above, Vampyres of Hollywood, which was co-written by Adrienne and Michael Scott.  The book is a tale of murder and mystery involving the deaths of several people connected to a Hollywood scream queen who also happens to be a 500 year old vampire.  I took a second to flip open the cover and guess what I found? An aunthentic autograph from Adrienne Barbeau herself!!!
Photobucket
This must have been one of those copies that Borders Books sometimes has hidden on their shelves that has been actually autographed by the authors. So unbeknownst to me I was the owner of an autographed copy of Adrienne's book. Crazy the things you find when cleaning or packing up your apartment.

OK now for the first annual 4th of July contest/scavenger hunt.  Hopefully this blog will be around for many more Independence Day celebrations so that we can actually say that it's an annual thing.  Up for grabs this time are two copies of Darkwalker!

Photobucket
Here's the lowdown on Darkwalker from the back of the DVD case: It's Halloween at Hobb's Grove.  Seven teenagers start working as tour guides in a haunted amusement park.  When they begin to disappear, one by one, they discover an unspeakable monster that walks the grounds.  Can they unravel the mystery of the Dark Walker before it's too late?  Directed by Danny Draven and produced by Chuck Williams, this film begins a new chapter in terror.

To win this contest you're going to have to work a little bit more than the last giveaway. (Hopefully not too much work, but hey it's a free DVD right?) Here are the rules and legal mumbo jumbo for the contest.
HalloweenOverkill's 4th of July Scavenger Hunt Contest
1.  You must be a follower of this blog.  If you aren't yet just click the follower tab up at the top right.
2. You must have a mailing address within the US (due to cost restraints, I can't ship the DVDs outside of the US).
3.  You must answer these three trivia questions correctly and post your answers in the comments section:
                 *  Which Hollywood summer hit movie featured the mask from Darkwalker? Hint: the answer can be found at the official Darkwalker site by clicking here http://www.darkwalkermovie.com
                 *  Earlier somewhere on this blog I reviewed another Chuck Williams produced film. Find the post that featured this film's review and tell me what Jolly Jack-O-Lantern rating this film received. Hint: click on the DVD button on the sidebar and go from there!
                 *  Finally, find the badge/link to my new HalloweenOverkill Facebook page and click on it. Once you're over at the new page, find the Super Secret Password and that is your answer to this third and final question. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to "like" the HalloweenOverkill facebook page as well although it is not required for this giveaway...

4.  Don't forget to leave your email address in the same post that you answer these questions in so I can contact you if you win.
5.  If more than two people answer all questions correctly then they will all be entered into a contest winner generator and drawn at random.
The deadline for this contest is Saturday July 10th at 11:59 P.M. ESTWinners will be contracted by email and DVDs will be shipped to the address provided by winners. I take no responsibility for damage during shipment but will do my ultimate best to make sure they get to your doorstep in as good as condition as they left my home.  I'd also like to thank Chuck Williams for providing these DVDs for the giveaway, you can visit his official site at http://www.chuckwilliamsfanclub.com/  If anyone has any problems posting their answers in the comments section, email me at halloweenoverkill@gmail.com

Jolly Jack-O-Lantern Rating Scale

Ok ghouls so in preparation for the first big review (coming soon) I have decided upon a rating scale I will use so that you have some sense of how good or bad the movie was besides just the worded review. Plus every one loves a rating scale right? So here goes with the explanation
Photobucket 1 Jolly Jack-O-Lantern = Abysmal, the worst of the worst, not even worth a rent.  Any movie receiving a 1 JJOL will also receive the seal of suck which is this right here
Photobucket

Photobucket 2 Jolly Jack-O-Lanterns = Not the worst of the worst, but pretty much SYFY channel material
Photobucket3 Jolly Jack-O-Lanterns = Decent, run of the mill horror film, worth a rent, maybe a purchase
Photobucket4 Jolly Jack-O-Lanterns = Very good, fun to watch, worth owning
Photobucket5 Jolly Jack-O-Lanterns = Gold!, HalloweenOverkill Hall of Fame, A must own! Epic!, Legendary!
So what do you think?  Is there something I should change?  Love it?  Hate it?  Also I wanted to point out that I added a twitter feed so you can follow me on twitter now as well.  It should be over to the right, so click on join the conversation to see my twitter page.  One more thing before I close the night out folks.  Do any of you enjoy carving pumpkins?  Do you also love eating watermelon?  Is there any way those two activities may fit together?  If not lets just say you may want to buy a watermelon and bust out your pumpkin carving tools early.  If you're wondering why, its all connected to the Wild Eye contest that will be running next week.  I will drop the details this weekend so stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled.
p.s. This was another late night post without the editor so it may look like a total catastrophe.

Time to get things rollin........

Photobucket

I have decided that the blog must be energized!  Not sure how I went from posting everyday to just once in the past few days, and lets be honest those birthday posts weren't very exciting were they?  I'm sure we've all had these crazy weeks before right?  Finishing up school (Dean's List again!), Grandpa recovering from a nasty infection which left him in the hospital for a week, birthday celebrations (my Sister and I are a day apart, so this weekend was crazy), and getting ready for the big move, have all put the blog on the back burner.  Sorry Ghouls!  Anyways all is well and much of that is in the past now (except for the move) so what better way to get this summer started than to do my first few movie reviews!  I'll have plenty of those reviews coming up soon for you followers out there complete with a rating scale that will be implemented with said reviews.  Also keep your eyes glued to Halloween Overkill because coming next week I will finally be having the blog's first giveaway!!!  That's right the amazingly astonishing wonderful folks over at Wild Eye have provided me with some goodies to giveaway (the picture above is of one of their titles, Gothkill).  The giveaway/contest (haven't decided what to do yet) should take place around sometime next week or maybe even this weekend.  So overall these things should get the blog moving and I myself promise to keep them moving form here on out.  Also if you're interested, my wife and I are about halfway through Alan Wake, the new psychological thriller for the xbox 360, so I should be doing a review for that soon as well.  So, what do you think, sound like a decent kickoff to summer?  Also I'd like to note that my editor (a.k.a. wife) is already sleeping so there will be no editing of this post, terrible right?  I know.
